What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a disease characterized by the presence of tissue resembling endometrium (the lining of the uterus) outside the uterus. It causes a chronic inflammatory reaction that may result in the formation of scar tissue (adhesions, fibrosis) within the pelvis and other parts of the body.

What is PCOS?

PCOS is a very common hormone problem for women of childbearing age. Women with PCOS may not ovulate, have high levels of androgens, and have many small cysts on the ovaries. PCOS can cause missed or irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth, acne, infertility, and weight gain.

If you are someone that has spent years living with the effects of PCOS or Endometriosis then we are here to tell you that all hope is not lost, continue reading to see how we at Medissage are helping women get their lives back through innovative, science backed treatments.

1. Specialized Treatment

By implementing a stringent consultation process we tailor and deliver treatment options to women based on their individual needs. Each case is unique, and we understand that everyone needs a space that they feel listened to. As the research on massage, in relation to, pain relief continues to grow more and more physicians recommend massage therapy for pain relief as an alternative to potentially addictive pain medications. In February 2017, the American College of Physicians changed its recommendations to include massage therapy as a first-line treatment for lower back pain. Opioid medications are now only recommended as a last resort.[i]

2. Women helping Women

Here at Medissage PCOS and Endometriosis affect us daily in both our professional and personal lives, and that’s why we are so passionate about delivering a treatment that works. From Medical to Wellness, our therapists are trained in a wide range of massage modalities to meet you at every step of your wellness journey. We are qualified to give advice on different treatments and will assist you day-to-day with your pain management.

4. Holistic Approach

There is no cure for PCOS but early diagnosis and lifestyle changes can help relieve symptoms. Massage therapy, in particular, is an excellent way to target symptoms and can improve physical symptoms like pelvic inflammation. Restricted blood flow and digestive issues. It may also alleviate mental health symptoms such as stress, anxiety and depression. Massage therapy may also break up adhesions within the reproductive organs which will help reduce inflammation and pain. Easing muscles and tension from within will help your body support a healthy reproductive symptom.[ii]

Many endometriosis patients prefer massage therapy to more aggressive endometriosis interventions, such as surgery. Massage therapy has fewer side effects and typically costs less than other endometriosis treatments. Research shows massage therapy can effectively reduce symptoms of endometriosis. In one study, researchers recorded pain relief data for people with endometriosis who underwent massage therapy treatments for six weeks, ultimately finding significant levels of pain relief.

Several studies have shown that regular massage gives short-term and long-term relief from the pelvic pain and muscle spasms of endometriosis.

Because research around Women’s Health is always advancing, we ensure that we stay up to date on new studies relating to Endometriosis and PCOS, our therapists undergo regular training in pain management, massage techniques, and anatomy & physiology.
