MEDI MASSAGE

What is Medical Massage and how can it benefit me?

Find out more about our Medical Massage, that combines Deep Tissue Massage with Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy, by reading below:

Medical Massage is a type of Massage Therapy that takes a clinically focused approach, utilising advanced massage techniques to provide therapeutic & remedial relief from a range of physical issues. The techniques used are a combination of Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release and Neuromuscular Therapy.
In Medical Massage, the focus is to realign and promote healthy function of the deeper layers of the muscle and connective tissue.

The Benefits of Medical Massage & How it Works
Medical Massage allows the therapist to locate and address dysfunction within the Musculo-Skeletal system.
Dysfunction within this system can be caused by a range of factors; such as muscular injury, postural habits, muscle overload, stress, chronic illnesses/syndromes and more.
When these problems are present, there are often adhesions (tight bands of painful and rigid tissue) in the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Adhesions can cause pain and inflammation, limit movement, block circulation and aggravate the surrounding muscular systems.
Medical Massage focuses on relieving pain and restoring normal movement, by breaking down these adhesions and allowing the muscle to return to normal function.

Medi Massage - What Techniques are used and how does it feel?

Your Medi Massage will be a specific combination of techniques, used together to work with your body and get the best results with your issue.
The treatment can incorporate the following techniques:

  • Deep Tissue Massage

  • Trigger Point Therapy

  • Myofascial Release

  • Neuromuscular Therapy

  • Swedish Massage

  • Deep Abdominal Massage

  • Stretching and Mobilisations

  • NeuroKinetic Therapy™

In most cases, a deep pressure will be used with the aim of accessing the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, however, the treatment will always be done within your pain threshold, as we want to work with your body and not against it, to get the best relief and release.

Medi Massage - How long should my session be?

The Medi Massage is a very focused treatment and so the typical "go to" for session length (i.e 30mins back, neck & shoulder or 60mins full body massage) does not apply with this type of treatment. The adequate session length will depend on the severity of the issue and also how well your body responds to the techniques.
If you are looking to address only one area/issue, an initial session of either 45minutes or 60minutes will be ideal for thorough consultation, treatment and assessment of your body's response to the treatment. If you are looking at more than one area, either 60minutes or 90minutes would be advised.
Your session will begin with an in-depth consultation for your therapist to learn about you and your situation, so as to make the treatment as beneficial as possible for you. This will include details about your current issue, medical history, lifestyle factors and postural & movement patterns.
After your initial session, we will be able to advise you on the best way forward, in terms of next appointment, frequency etc. Medi Massage works most effectively when experienced as a course of treatments, tailored to break and reprogramme the cumulative cycle of muscle injury and/or dysfunction.
